Equites Maenarum - Combattimenti Medioevali a Cavallo

It was in may 2000 that the “Associazione Equites Maenarum” was born thanks to knight’s love of Medieval culture. They put together the so called “two love” to create what in Italy is difficult to see … “Medieval Horse Fights”. Every performance is based on a real historical event happened in the past. Our directors made it suitable in order to feel it with enthusiasm. It is on stage and the “forth wall”, already discouraged, allow to the public to be involved in stories either fascinating or dramatic which you can take part in yourself. Falls from the horses, attacks by iron swords against hostile and unfriendly men, knight fights, hoofs’ sound allow us to go back in to ancient times. The audience participates in the stories, and it take a favourite of one knight as if once would be in the battlefield or in the open-air-theatre. What to say about the scene which exactly reproduces the past: the crowned King and his Queen dressed with long and fashionable clothes … golden and Silver jewels, magnificent sapphires … the court following them with the smiling jester who are always cheerful. They jump and sing with their behaviour so silly to make oneself a laughing stock. If on one side you find wealth, on the other side, there is poor people’s life: the marginalized poor, pale women, tired workers and orphans begging. They live only to a life in a false world where the hypocrisy kills the weaker and the undefended people. Every show has his own historical sets and character who distinguish themselves. As we explained, the Director wants give us a true idea about the ancient life including either scene or customs and local traditions. A author’s love is for the past and in particular toward the knights, their horses and everything than belong to their lives. About the knights and horses he wants to underline not only their charm but also their decorations such as the saddles or the bite.
“Cherry on the cake” … What about music? … Refined sounds follow actor’s movements as if the music would suggest which movement do.
It is a show created concentrating on very little detail and what give us satisfaction is the amazed faces of the public such a wonderful unforgettable “world”.
